Gene took over as County Coroner in 2018 (swearing-in ceremony was held on December 21, 2017).

Gene, a retired funeral director of former Rush Funeral Home in Rogersville, PA.

Gene was unopposed for the GOP nomination in the May 16 primary 2017, and squared off in the fall 2017 elections. Rush emphasized his desire to continue serving county residents, and pledged to use his four decades of experience to comfort local families while helping fight the drug epidemic.

After graduating from local schools, Mr. Rush enlisted in the United State Air Force, serving four years, including a one-year tour in Vietnam. He went on to reach the rank of staff sergeant.
Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and graduated from Robert Morris College, and from the Pittsburgh School of Mortuary Science with honors. He earned his funeral director license and went on to a successful 44-year career of helping local families, including more than 30 years as the owner and operator of Rush Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Gene is a member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639, past president and current secretary of the West Greene Area Lions Club, current member of the Community Foundation of Greene County, member of the former Greene County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and a member of the Funeral Directors Association.

Gene and his wife, Judy, have four children, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The couple continues to give of their time, talents and money to many local community and civic organizations, and they were recently honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
