WAYNESBURG, PA. – An investigation conducted at the Greene County Courthouse following a bomb threat made earlier this morning via telephone has determined that the threat was a hoax.
Greene County Sheriff Marcus Simms said the phone threat was made to one of the courthouse offices at around 8:30 a.m. and it was reported immediately to the Sheriff’s office.
The building was quickly evacuated for safety precautions and Simms acquired the help of three Pittsburgh K-9 officers – explosives detection canines – to assist with local enforcement to investigate the courthouse.
The investigation found “no threat to the courthouse or to county employees at this time,” Simms said, and employees were allowed to return to work.
Simms thanked the officers and officials who quickly acted to “ensure the safety and security of the courthouse.”
Simms added that an investigation into the telephone threat is ongoing.
