Commissioners proclaim September Hunger Action Month

Greene County Commissioners recently issued a proclamation recognizing September as Hunger Action Month.
During their Sept. 4 meeting, Greene County Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing September as Hunger Action Month.

The proclamation states that Greene County is committed to taking steps to raise awareness about the need to combat hunger in every part of the county and to provide additional resources that area residents need.

According to Candace Tustin Webster, Executive Director of the Corner Cupboard Food Bank, Hunger Action Month encourages people all across America to stand together with food banks nationwide to fight hunger.

“It’s a month to spread the word and take action on the hunger crisis, and dedicate ourselves to a solution,” she said. “We hope everyone joins in.”

The proclamation was presented to Webster and Lynne Snyder, CCFB Board Member; Barbara Wise, CCFB Board Secretary/Treasurer; and Jessica Cole, CCFB Operations Manager.

Commissioner Blair Zimmerman said Greene County is committed to working with the Corner Cupboard Food Bank “in educating people about the role and importance of food banks in addressing hunger and raising awareness of the need to devote more resources and attention to hunger issues.”

Commissioner Dave Coder said the Board of Commissioners “recognizes the importance of bringing awareness and attention to encourage involvement in efforts to end hunger in our communities, across the United States and around the world.”

Webster thanked the Commissioners for the proclamation and for their support, and encouraged any and all residents wishing to obtain more information about Hunger Action Month and/or the Corner Cupboard Food Bank, or to receive assistance, to call CCFB at 724-627-9784.

She also said Corner Cupboard Food Bank currently provides food security to over 2,000 Greene County residents monthly through a network of eleven pantry distribution sites.

“Our mission continues thanks to the support of our community,” she said. “Volunteers, food and monetary donations are always appreciated.”
