The proclamation, which was presented to Chamber representatives during the Commissioners’ Oct. 10 regular meeting, recognizes the Chamber’s dedication to serving – and providing services to and for – businesses in Greene County.
The proclamation states that the Greene County Chamber of Commerce “plays a critical role in supporting the needs of our vibrant business community and is essential to the county’s continued economic growth and advancement.”
After presenting the proclamation, Commissioner Blair Zimmerman said the Board of Commissioners is “grateful for the invaluable role that it plays in ensuring businesses new and old can continue to prosper.”
Commissioner Dave Coder commended Longstreth and the Chamber staff for “continuing to shine, year in and year out, as an efficient and positive force for our many businesses here in Greene County.”
Commissioner Archie Trader said the Chamber’s efforts “enhance our communities, and we believe the Chamber will serve as an inspiration for our businesses for many years to come.”
In receiving the proclamation, Melody Longstreth, executive director of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber is proud of its long-term commitment to area businesses.
“Local business is integral to the growth and longevity of a community, and the strength of local business is dependent on the support of the community,” Longstreth said. “The Greene County Chamber of Commerce provides services and programs to increase the success of member businesses and organizations, enhancing the quality of life in Greene County.”
Currently, there are 361 members, and the Chamber was recently ranked number 19 by the Pittsburgh Business Times on their list of “Largest Chambers in the Pittsburgh Region.”
“The Chamber is very proud of this ranking,” Longstreth said. “(It) reflects the dedication of the staff and the Board of Directors to growing a vibrant and thriving Chamber to serve not only the business community but the general population as well though events such as the Annual Downtown Waynesburg Christmas Parade.”
The Chamber has been providing services and programs for local businesses since 1901. The organization previously known as Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce changed its name to its current moniker in July 2017.
Among its many goals, the organization represents community interests that enhance economic and civic well-being, promote business development and provide programs and benefits to promote Chamber membership.
This month, the Chamber will host its annual Membership Banquet and Awards Ceremony, where special awards will be presented. John “Buzz” Walters of Rogersville will receive the 2019 Distinguished Service Award, the 2019 Posthumous Distinguished Service Award will be presented in honor the late Greene County Sheriff Brian Tennant and Fox Ford will be awarded the 2019 McCracken Legacy Award.
The Chamber also provides an annual scholarship to a graduating Greene County high school senior who is going on to a two-year or four-year college, university or trade school. And, two new scholarships are being awarded by the Chamber beginning in 2018, the Dr. Nancy I. Davis Memorial Leadership Scholarship and the Dr. Nancy I. Davis Memorial Educational Support Scholarship.
