WAYNESBURG, PA. – Greene County Commissioners approved a company’s low bid for a 2.2-mile extension of the Greene River Trail during their meeting on June 20.
Bids for the extension project were received and reviewed by Mackin Engineering, and the lowest bid of $776,469 was submitted by Costabile Construction, Inc. of Uniontown.
Officials said that once construction begins on the extension it is anticipated to be completed within 90 days.
Commissioners also approved a contract between the County and Mackin Engineering for construction management and inspection services for the Greene River Trail extension in the amount of $45,360.
The rail trail – which currently runs 5.1 miles adjacent to the Upper Monongahela Water Trail greenway – was designed to accommodate individuals interested in walking, jogging and bicycling. The trail starts in Millsboro at the Greene Cove Yacht Club trailhead in Jefferson Township.
“We are excited to see the trail extension project moving forward with these actions approved today,” said Commissioner Dave Coder. “This 2.2-mile extension is only going to make the Greene River Tail – which is already an essential part of Greene County recreation – even better.”
In another matter, Commissioners approved a company’s low bid for the replacement of a county-owned Bridge No. 8 in Perry Township. The county received several bids that were carefully reviewed by the county’s engineer, solicitor and controller, and the lowest bid of $689,233 was submitted by JF Shea Construction, Inc.
County Bridge No. 8, which crosses Shannon Run, was originally built in 1915 and was one of the four county-owned bridges designated for replacement last year. The cost is being paid for through a combination of a low-interest loan from the state Department of Transportation’s Pennsylvania Infrastructure Bank and matching grant funding already secured for the four bridge replacement projects.
“Replacing, renovating and/or improving our county-owned bridges that are in need of such services is very important for our residents, so moving forward with these projects is essential for us and for the county,” said Commissioner Blair Zimmerman. “This bridge is just one of several that are on their way to being replaced, which will be beneficial for all who travel on our roads and across our bridges.”
Commissioners also approved documents between the county and two residents for right-of-way and temporary construction easements for Bridge No. 8.
Commissioners also:
• Awarded a proposal for Day Camp transportation to Mlaker Student Transportation at a cost of $229.75 per day;
• Approved an open-end lease rate quote for a 2020 Ford police interceptor utility vehicle for the Probation office at a cost of $650.12 per month;
• Approved an open-end lease rate quote for a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee for CYS in the amount of $622.02 per month;
• Allocated $8,800 to American Legion Post 330 in Waynesburg to help pay for a new roof;
• Allocated $1,000 to Carmichaels VFW Post 3491 to help pay for Honor Guard attire;
• Allocated $5,250 to the Greensboro Mon Township Sewer Authority for emergency repairs to Maple Road;
• Approved the allocation of up to $10,000 of Act 13 funds to assist Greene Township in engineering costs of Turkey Knob Road’s slide repair;
• Approved a design and engineering proposal from Widmer Engineering in the estimate budget total of $2,560 for paving the parking lot at the Greene County Office Building;
• Approved a submission to Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for a grant application to develop a drug court initiative within the county Court system;
• Approved a maintenance agreement between the County and Autoclear for an X-ray scanner in the courthouse in the amount of $13,800;
• Approved a service agreement between the County and Bearcom in the amount of $1,592.85 monthly for equipment used by the county Emergency Management Agency;
• Amended the contract between the County and Altered Gas Performance to include the date of June 23, 2019 as a rain date for the Flashlight Drags event at the county airport; and
• Approved a reduction of 50 cents in the cost of aviation fuel for the Greene County Flying Club when the club is providing educational services.
