Candidates' informational meeting set for Feb. 7, 2017

WAYNESBURG, PA Greene County residents that are interested in running for county, municipal or school district office this year, are being asked to attend an informational meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017at 5:30 p.m.
The candidates" informational meeting will be held in the first-floor meeting room of the Greene County Office Building, 93 E. High St., Waynesburg. Organized by the Greene County elections office, the meeting will address the proper procedures for completing nomination petitions, Election Day conduct and other relevant topics. Petitions will be handed out at the candidates’ meeting and be available to pick up in the elections office starting Feb. 8.
Offices on this year’s ballot include the following: county row offices; Sheriff and Coroner – Which are four-year terms. Magisterial District Judge 13-3-01 and 13-3-02. These offices are six-year terms.
Municipal Offices: Supervisors and Auditors, 6 yr terms; Mayors, Council Members, Tax Collectors, School Directors, Judge of Election & Inspector of Election, 4 yr terms within each respective municipality and school district. A complete listing of the offices available will be publicized at a later date.
The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017, and the Municipal election will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
The first day to circulate and file nomination petitions is February 14, 2017.
The last day to circulate and file nomination petitions is March 7, 2017.
Although March 7th is the last legal day to circulate and file nominating petitions, candidates are encouraged to file earlier to allow time to correct any mistakes made in the process. In addition to collecting signatures, candidates must have the affidavits on the back of the petition notarized before filing and financial statements must be completed and returned with the petitions.
Ballot positions for the primary election will be determined during the casting of lots Wednesday, March 15 at 10 a.m. in the elections office. Candidates must draw in person or have a designated agent draw for them. If a candidate or designated agent is not present to draw, the Board of Elections will appoint someone to represent that candidate.
Deadline for voter registration and changes are April 17th for the May 16th Primary Election and October 10th for the November 7th Municipal Election.
