Recreation offers self-defense program

FOR RELEASE — January 24, 2017

WAYNESBURG, PA — The Greene County Department of Recreation will host a six-week Women’s Self-Defense program on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 19.

According to www.rainn.org, every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. "Don't say it can never happen to YOU!" instructor Mark Shrader, of Mark Shrader’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Washington, said.

Shrader will lead the program by expanding how to think about violence prevention, dealing with fears and methods to building the sense of empowerment. He will utilize not only physical training, but psychological awareness and verbal skills to successfully prevent, escape, resist and survive violent assaults.

Classes will be held in the Upper Level of Building #10 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The six-week program fee is $75 per individual. The deadline to pre-register and pay for the program is Friday, Feb. 10.

Classes may be canceled due to participation or inclement weather. Announcements will be made on WANB Radio and the Greene County Commissioners Facebook page.
