STEM Program (Wednesday, Feb. 14): Ages 9 to 11 are invited to solve top-secret problems at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in February at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Local teachers, Kate Hillsman and Crystal Pratt, will lead children in hands-on science programs that promote cooperation, team building and logical thinking. Valentines Day Extravaganza (Wednesday, Feb. 14): Flowing chocolate fountains, cash & carry-out bouquets; wine slushy samples and specialty sweetheart desserts will be at 5 Kidz Kandy on Valentine’s Day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. while supplies last. Plus Thistlethwaite Vineyards will be on-site for wine tasting and sales from noon to 8 p.m.
Symphonic Band Mid-Winter Concert (Wednesday, Feb. 14): The Symphonic Band will perform selections from the 9th Annual Waynesburg University Conducting Symposium which include “Overture for Winds” by Charles Carter, “Down a Country Lane” by Aaron Copland, “Tempered Steel” by Charles Rochester Young, “Incidental Suite” by Claude T. Smith and “El Capitan” by John Philip Sousa/Brion & Schissel. Free admission and the concert begins at 5:15 p.m. in the Marsh Center at Waynesburg University.
Skate & Dance (Friday, Feb. 16): Enjoy Friday night at Mon View Roller Rink for Skate & Dance. Admission is $8 per person with skating from 7 to 9 p.m. followed by dancing from 9 to 11 p.m.

Yoga for Beginners w/ Crista Turner: Learn the fundamentals of Yoga through gentle stretching and simple poses. Build strength, improve balance, align the body, and quiet the mind by creating an overall sense of well-being. Saturday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Vine Room at Thistlethwaite Vineyards. $10 per class and mats provided.
Retro-Spective (Jan. 29 – Feb. 23): Exhibition at Waynesburg University’s Benedum Fine Arts Gallery featuring local artist, Colleen Nelson. Gallery Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment.
Gentle Yoga Classes at Greene County Fairgrounds (Jan. 30 – Mar. 8): Stretch your body, mind & spirit with Gentle Yoga classes at the Greene County Fairgrounds in the upper level of the 4-H Building on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. Certified Yoga Instructor, Virginia Wainwright, will teach beginning yoga poses, alignment and gentle movements in and out of poses. Classes are $5 each and you will need to bring a yoga mat. Register by calling the Department of Recreation at 724-852-5323.

2018 Memorial Scholarship: The Ralph K. Bell Bird Club of Greene County is accepting applications for the $1,000 Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors, home schooled, college or university freshman & sophomores with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applicants must be a resident of Greene County, Pa. To enter, applicants must write a 500-word essay stating what you know about the winter birds of Greene County. Essays must be submitted by March 31, 2018. Trip to New York City: Nathanael Greene CDC will be sponsoring a 3-day trip to New York City on May 3, 2018. Participants will be staying at the Manhattan at Times Square Hotel on 7th Avenue. February 19, 2018 PRESIDENTs DAY HOLIDAY NOTICE
Greene County Government Offices will be closed in observance of the President Day holiday on Monday, February 19, 2018. Exceptions to the holiday would be Emergency Management/911 Center, the Greene County Prison, and the Transportation Office.
Greene County Government Offices will reopen at 8:30 am on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. FMI, contact the individual offices for further information, or call the County Commissioners Office at 724-852-5210.
The Greene County Transportation Office will be closed Monday, February 19, 2018 in observance of the President Da yholiday, except for scheduled dialysis trips reserved by 12:00 pm on Friday, February 16th, 2018. Our office will reopen on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 at 7:00 AM.
All Greene County Transportation clients should schedule NO LATER than 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday, February 16th, 2018 for Tuesday, February 20th, 2018.

2018 SKATE & DANCE SEASON

2018 STEMMIN' It UP After School Program
Hey KIDS, join this after school problem solving workshop held for ages 9-11 on Wednesday's at 4:30pm starting in February. Held at the Greene County Fairgrounds, 4-H Building Upstairs. Classes are approximately 1-hour long and $5 for each session. Two Greene County teachers are bringing this STEM after school program to our students. Pre-registration is required.

GENTLE YOGA CLASSES
Join us for this six-week session of stretching for body, mind & spirit with certified Yoga instructor Virginia Wainwright. The lifeguard recruitment for Ryerson Station State Park is in progress, the test through PA State Civil Service Commission for lifeguards will be open from January 10, 2018 through February 25, 2018. For the public, it is imperative for anyone interested in working the 2018 summer season at Ryerson Station State Park as a lifeguard this year (the 2018 summer season), will need to get their certifications and apply online through the PA State Civil Service Commission. "Buy Local, Buy Greene" Network:
The "'Buy Local, Buy Greene" campaign was launched in 2011 to promote Greene County businesses and educate consumers on the power of buying local. Several local organizations have partnered to provide funding for this initiative which includes a social media campaign, promotional materials, and give-a-ways items. There is no cost involved to join the network. Seventeen businesses signed on to the network in 2013 and nearly 50 consumers pledged to spend a total of $4,829/month at local businesses through out online survey.
The Buy Local, Buy Greene campaign is successful due to the partnership of Community Bank, Greene County Conservation District, Greene County Tourism, University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center, Wayensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful, and Waynesburg University Center for Research and Economic Development. The conservation district provides technical assistance in reaching agricultural communities in Greene County.
